ANAND, GUJARAT | 30th SEPTEMBER 2026 | The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) under the leadership of its President Shri Montukumar Patel and Vice President Shri Jashubhai Chaudhari initiated an awareness campaign that aimed to engage the pharmacy fraternity in creating public awareness about Antimirobial Resistance and rational use of antibiotics. The AMR awareness campaign was organized as a part of World Pharmacists Day / National Pharmacy Week 2026 celebration in Gujarat state. The programme was held on 30 September 2026 at the Ipcowala Auditorium, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Anand, Gujarat around the theme “स्वस्थभारत: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).” Gujarat state was chosen to initiate the national campaign which served as Model to be replicated in more than 20 other states of India for transition of Government of India and PCI combined vision to transform student level awareness in to state level public health movement.
The programme was graced by Dr. Prashant Korat General Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Gujarat, Shri Devusinh Chauhan Member of Parliament, Kheda , Gujarat, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Shri Jashubhai Chaudhari, Vice President, Pharmacy Council of India, and Dr. Atul Kumar Nasa, Executive Committee Member, Pharmacy Council of India, Prof. (Dr.) Niranjan P. Patel, Vice Chancellor, Sardar Patel University, V. V. Nagar; Shri Bharatbhai B. Patel, President, Gujarat State Pharmacy Council among other invited dignitaries.
Dr. Srikant Joshi is appointed as the National Co-Convener of the programme through PCI, NewDelhi. Dr. Ashvin Dudhrejia and Dr.Tejal Gandhi served as Convener and coordinator for the programme organized in Gujarat State. Dr. Falgun Mehta and Dr. Umang Shah Co-Coordinated the event along with 93 organizing committee members from Pharma fraternity.
The Programme witnessed an impressive involvement of around 1000 student participants in different events which were then evaluated by more than 90 pharmacy academicians. As part of the event AMR Awareness Rally was organized from vrundavan ground to SPU campus Anand , with overwhelming response including 1200 participation from budding pharmacists and Pharma stall wards. Major events in the programme included panel discussion, expert talk Poster presentation, Scitoons, Leaflet, Reel Making, Pharma Quiz and Nukkad Natak. These activities were designed to encourage creativity, knowledge sharing, teamwork and public engagement while communicating relevant messages of spreading awareness for combating antimicrobial resistance which is a major national health concern.
The Gujarat State AMR Awareness Campain at Anand marks an important professional and academic gathering dedicated to recognize the contribution of pharmacists and reinforcing collective responsibility towards healthier communities and responsible use of medicines.
