Proud Moment for Gujarati Art and Literature: Vyas Brothers Usher in a New Era for Manbhatt Tradition

VADODARA, GUJARAT | 02nd MAY 2026 | In a landmark moment for Gujarat’s cultural heritage, the fading Manbhatt Akhyan tradition witnessed a historic revival at the iconic Laxmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara. The recent performance, presented by renowned Manbhatt artists Kalpesh Vyas and Chetan Vyas, popularly known as the Vyas Brothers, has set a unique benchmark, bringing renewed recognition to Gujarat’s traditional folk art.

For the first time, the Vyas Brothers introduced the innovative ‘Dual Manbhatt’ concept, featuring two artists performing simultaneously while playing the traditional maan, accompanied by narrative storytelling and wedding songs. The unique experiment added a golden chapter to the history of the Manbhatt tradition and left the audience spellbound.

Organised as part of a wedding celebration, the event showcased a blend of Vedic chants, traditional Gujarati wedding songs and the Manbhatt storytelling style. Sacred Vedic mantras, combined with the essence of folk music, created a deeply spiritual and uplifting atmosphere.

Accompanied by a large ensemble of 31 skilled musicians, the Vyas Brothers delivered an immersive musical experience, making the event both grand and memorable. The scale and synchronisation of the performance lent it a distinctive identity.

Originally established by the legendary poet Premanand Bhatt, the Manbhatt tradition has been given a contemporary direction through this pioneering effort by the Vyas Brothers, earning appreciation in artistic circles. The confluence of Vedic verses and Gujarati wedding music symbolised a revival of cultural heritage.

Art enthusiasts, who witnessed the performance, lauded the bold and innovative initiative, noting that it will inspire future generations and help the Manbhatt tradition gain wider recognition. The performance stands as a milestone, celebrating and elevating the pride of Gujarati art, culture and tradition.
