Citizens’ alertness & caution can prevent many digital frauds: Surat Police

Surat (Gujarat), August, 2026: In light of the growing incidence of cyber fraud and digital financial scams across the country, Bajaj Finance Limited (BFL), India’s largest private-sector NBFC and a part of Bajaj Finserv created awareness in Surat through “Knockout Digital Fraud” campaign as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance financial and cyber security awareness among the public.

The initiative aligns with RBI’s fraud risk management guidelines and focuses on helping people to create awareness about common cyber threats such as phishing, OTP fraud, fake loan offers, investment scams, digital arrest frauds, and fraudulent links shared through social media and messaging platforms. Experts highlighted the importance of safeguarding personal and banking information and encouraged citizens to remain vigilant while conducting online transactions.

Speaking at the Bajaj Finance’s “Knockout Digital Fraud” awareness initiative, PSI Krishna Asodariya, Surat Cyber Crime Team, urged citizens to “Think Before You Click” and emphasized the importance of verifying unknown links, calls, and messages.

“Cyber frauds are a growing social menace and users must be cautious while using digital platforms — careless sharing of personal information can be exploited by scammers. The ‘Golden Hour’ is critical: if victims report the fraud by calling 1930 within the first hour, there’s a 90% chance of recovering the lost money. Remember — the first 60 minutes are crucial.” she added.

Speaking on the occasion, a spokesperson from BFL, said, “At Bajaj Finance, safeguarding our customers from financial fraud remains a top priority. Through regular advisories across digital platforms, social media channels, and community outreach programmes, we strive to raise awareness about cyber threats and empower citizens to stay vigilant and cyber safe.”

Bajaj Finance Limited (BFL) had conducted over 100 plus wokrshops across different parts of the country during the last financial year and the initiative aligns with the Reserve Bank of India’s Fraud Risk Management guidelines for NBFCs and aims to strengthen public awareness of digital safety. The programme highlighted common frauds involving fake social media accounts, WhatsApp groups, and fraudulent websites impersonating financial institutions and their employees to deceive customers.
