Breast Cancer Awareness Event Held, Book Launched to Guide Cancer Patients, Families

SURAT |  04th OCTOBER 2025: An awareness programme on breast cancer, accompanied by the launch of the Gujarati-language book “A Ray of Hope in Cancer”, was held in the city today. The event brought together doctors, cancer survivors, and social workers, highlighting the urgent need for early detection and accurate information in addressing one of the most common cancers among women.

Doctors at the event stressed that breast cancer, if diagnosed at an early stage, is highly treatable. However, due to fear, misinformation, and lack of awareness, many patients still seek medical help only when the disease has progressed. The programme aimed to dispel myths and encourage women to take proactive steps towards screening and prevention.

The book “A Ray of Hope in Cancer” was formally launched on the occasion. Written in simple Gujarati, it seeks to provide practical guidance for patients, families, and the public. The book covers a wide range of subjects, including different types of cancer, their causes and symptoms, lifestyle practices for prevention, the importance of early screening, and dietary and emotional support for those undergoing treatment. It also features real-life stories of survivors, aiming to inspire confidence among readers.

Speaking about the book, the author and Senior Medical Oncologist at Elite Hemat Onco Care Centre, Dr. Kaushal Patel, said, “The word cancer itself often triggers fear. Yet, with timely diagnosis, the right information, and a positive attitude, it is possible to overcome the disease. I am confident this book will serve as a source of strength and reassurance for patients, their loved ones, and society as a whole.”

During the event, oncologists outlined practical steps for prevention and care, such as self-breast examination, mammography, balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and avoiding tobacco and alcohol. They also highlighted the importance of reducing stress and ensuring strong emotional support for patients.

The aim of the programme was to spread the message of awareness, screening, and treatment. The event emphasised that by recognising symptoms early and acting without delay, many lives can be saved.
