GANDHINAGAR, GUJARAT | 27th MAY 2026 | Under the guidance of the popular Member of Parliament from the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency and Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, Amit Shah, several initiatives are being undertaken in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.Among these, through the campaign of rejuvenating and interlinking lakes, the green coverage of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency is increasing from 8% to 16%.As a result of the vision and mission-mode working style of Amit Shah, the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency is continuously moving forward towards becoming one of the leading green constituencies in the entire country
It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi has always maintained an approach that along with physical development, the preservation and development of the ecosystem and the well-being of the people are also kept at the center. In the parliamentary constituency of Gandhinagar, the Honorable MP and Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amitbhai Shah is continuously making efforts to realize the Prime Minister’s concept of sustainable development.
Among them, Anandam Jedwa Lake, built by Anil Patel in Vadsar village of Kalol taluka of Anandam family, is going to be inaugurated by Hon. Shri Amitbhai Shah today. Which is an excellent example of obtaining solar energy-powered knowledge by using natural resources.
Taking this concept forward, the project for inter-linking of lakes has been undertaken by Shri Amitbhai Shah. There are 1349 lakes in a total of 162 villages of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar districts falling under Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. Instructions were given by the Honourable Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amitbhai Shah to inter-link these lakes. Under which various departments of the Government of Gujarat like Irrigation Department, AUDA. GUDA, GMC and Narmada Nigam have been taken up for inter-linking of lakes.
A total of 167 lakes has been connected through Narmada-based pipelines and canals in the constituency of Hon’ble Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Amitbhai Shah. Out of the remaining lakes, in the first phase, 50 lakes in Ahmedabad district and 69 lakes in Gandhinagar district will be connected before the first month of 2026.
Currently, the work of interlinking 10 lakes in Ahmedabad district and 16 lakes in Gandhinagar district is in progress. In the second phase, after conducting a detailed survey for the drainage of excess water for the lakes that are naturally filled with rainwater and for the interconnection of the lakes, the work of interlinking most of the lakes will be planned.
The internal connection of these lakes will solve the problem of filling the village with water by connecting the lakes that remain empty during the monsoon with rainwater or pipelines nearby, and the water level in the ground will rise, and the availability of water for agriculture and livestock in the villages will also increase. Follow-up meetings for this campaign are also being held with the administration from time to time by Shri Amitbhai Shah. And under his guidance, efforts are being made to complete the work of all the lakes very quickly.
