Sports Activist Files PIL in Gujarat High Court Demanding Reforms inh Gujarat State Table Tennis Association

Ahmedabad 29th June 2025: Yatharth Pandya, a former national table tennis player and a leading sports activist, has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Gujarat High Court, seeking complete and effective implementation of the National Sports Development Code of India, 2011, in Gujarat State Table Tennis Association

The PIL highlights serious concerns regarding governance failures, mismanagement, and the lack of athlete representation within Gujarat State Table Tennis Association. The division bench comprising Chief Justice Mrs. Sunita Agarwal and Justice D.N. Ray has admitted the PIL and issued notices to all respondents. The next hearing is scheduled for July 25, 2025, and all parties have been directed to file their replies before the next date.

Yatharth Pandya stated, “There are serious issues of mismanagement, governance and athlete representation within Gujarat State Table Tennis Association. Such issues have been affecting emerging and talented players. Through this PIL, we are seeking honourable court’s intervention so that the federation’s operations remain transparent and players can display their full skills at national and international level.”

He further added, “This is not just a legal battle—it is a fight for athletes’ rights and dignity. We want sports bodies to be governed by principles of fairness, transparency, and professionalism.”
