Gujarat, Ahmedabad 21 March 2025: In a landmark achievement for Gujarat’s fashion education, two first-year students from the New York Institute of Fashion (NIF) Global, Gandhinagar have secured 1st spot at Lakmé Fashion Week 2025, which is slated to take place in Mumbai from March 26 to 30.
Becoming the first students from Gujarat to showcase their designs at India’s premier fashion event, the selection of Krishna Thacker and Aanya Mutta marks a moment of pride for the institute and the state, further establishing Gujarat’s influence in the fashion industry.
Competing against over 5,000 participants nationwide, Krishna and Aanya, who are just 19 years old, were among the five finalists chosen for their outstanding creativity and innovation. Their collection, Arctic Vogue, drew inspiration from the Arctic Tern, a bird renowned for its endurance and elegance during its extensive migratory journey. Conceptualised in December, their designs took months of meticulous effort to perfect, ultimately capturing the resilience and grace of the Arctic Tern in wearable art.
Expressing his pride, Vishal Makwana and Ashish Mehta, Directors of NIF, said, “This historic achievement showcases the talent, hard work, and innovative spirit of our students. At the Lakmé Fashion Week, India’s leading top models will walk the ramp wearing their designs in front of fashion industry giants. This represents an extraordinary moment in any young designer’s career, and for Aanya and Krishna, it is a dream come true.
