Ahmedabad, 03 April 2026: In an extraordinary act of courage and humanity, the family of 17-year-old Krish Akbari turned a moment of profound loss into a life-saving legacy through multi-organ donation at Marengo CIMS Hospital.
Krish Akbari was admitted on 29th March 2026 following a severe road traffic accident in critical condition, requiring ventilatory support. Despite continuous intensive care and all possible medical interventions, there was no neurological improvement. Following standard brain death protocols, including two positive apnea tests, he was declared brain dead.
After detailed counselling by the treating consultant and transplant coordination team, the family made the brave and selfless decision to donate multiple organs. The donation included the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, corneas, and hands-benefiting multiple recipients and offering a second chance at life.
The organ retrieval and allocation process was carried out as per established national protocols, ensuring timely and ethical distribution to patients in need. Notably, this case marked a first-ever hand donation in the private sector, setting a significant benchmark in transplant care.
This complex, multi-organ retrieval process was executed seamlessly through exceptional coordination, clinical expertise, and a highly committed multidisciplinary team.
