Ahmedabad’s Lalit Patel Wins Three Gold Medals at World Powerlifting Championships in Bangkok, Two Golds in Bodybuilding

AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT | 13th AUGUST 2026 | In a significant achievement, Ahmedabad-based athlete Lalit Patel won three gold medals at the World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) Iron World International Powerlifting Championship held in Bangkok from June 12 to 14.

Competing in the Master category as part of Team India, the 57-year-old athlete recorded a total lift of 400 kg across the squat, bench press and deadlift disciplines to secure three gold medals in powerlifting.

Patel also competed in bodybuilding at the championship, where he won two gold medals and earned a Pro Card.

The WRPF Iron World International Powerlifting Championship brought together athletes from several countries across different weight classes and age categories, with competitions in raw powerlifting, bench press and bodybuilding.

Patel’s latest performance boosts his international record in strength sports. In June 2025, he won three gold medals in the squat, bench press and deadlift events at a powerlifting championship in Pattaya, Thailand. He lifted a combined 405 kg and became the first Indian powerlifting world champion.

Patel is among the few Indian athletes competing successfully across both bodybuilding and powerlifting at the international level. A pure vegetarian, Patel has built his strength and fitness through disciplined training and nutrition, while competing at the international level.

Commenting on his performance, Patel said, “Winning three gold medals in powerlifting and two gold medals in bodybuilding at the same championship is a very special achievement for me. I have always believed that age or dietary choices should not limit what I can achieve as an athlete. I have worked hard on my training, strength, fitness and discipline to compete at the international level. Representing India and hearing our national anthem after winning is a moment I will always value.”

Patel’s performances in Thailand over the past two years have established him as a competitive Master category athlete on the international stage.

Patel is also set to launch Club 29 Gym, offering his expertise and experience in strength training and fitness, on August 15.
