SCRI and Shalby Hospitals host a Cancer Wellness Meet focused on life beyond treatment
AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT | 21st JUNE 2026 | Cancer is often seen as a battle fought inside hospital walls. But for more than 100 cancer warriors and their families who gathered at URJA – Cancer Wellness Meet 2026, the message was clear: the journey after treatment deserves just as much attention as the treatment itself.
Organised by Shalby Cancer & Research Institute (SCRI) and Shalby Multispeciality Hospitals, Ahmedabad, URJA brought together cancer survivors, caregivers, oncologists and wellness experts to celebrate life beyond cancer. Moving beyond the traditional focus on diagnosis and treatment, the event highlighted survivorship, an often-overlooked yet critical aspect of cancer care.
The event featured an engaging laughter therapy session through a stand-up comedy show by Chirayu Mistry, which filled the auditorium with smiles and demonstrated the healing power of positivity. Participants also attended a nutrition for recovery and wellness session conducted by Sohini Shah, who shared practical guidance on healthy eating and recovery after cancer treatment.
For many participants, the most powerful moments came from conversations among survivors sharing stories of fear, hope, recovery, and renewed purpose. The event also featured the launch of “Cancer Se Mera Samna”, a book by author and cancer survivor Mallika Mukherjee.
Dr. Viraj Lavingia, Director, SCRI, said, “Cancer care cannot end when treatment ends. As healthcare providers, we have a responsibility to support patients throughout their recovery journey. URJA reflects our vision of holistic cancer care, where medical care is complemented by emotional support, wellness, education and community engagement.”
Dr. Manasi Shah, Medical Oncologist at Shalby Hospitals, Ahmedabad, said, “The number of cancer survivors is growing because treatments are becoming more effective. However, survivorship brings challenges like nutrition, emotional well-being, fear of recurrence, physical recovery and social reintegration. Through URJA, we are creating a platform where survivors feel seen, supported and empowered to live life fully beyond cancer.”
Through initiatives like URJA, SCRI and Shalby Hospitals aim to build a stronger support ecosystem for survivors and their families while encouraging conversations around life beyond cancer.
Shalby Cancer & Research Institute (SCRI) is the dedicated oncology centre of Shalby Hospitals, offering comprehensive cancer diagnosis, treatment, and care through a multidisciplinary team of medical, surgical and radiation oncology experts.
Mallika Mukherjee, author and cancer survivor, said, “Cancer changed my life, but it also taught me the value of hope, inner strength and gratitude. Through ‘Cancer Se Mera Samna’, I am sharing an honest account of my journey so that every patient facing cancer knows they are not alone, and that even in the most difficult moments, there is always hope for a new beginning.”
True to its name, URJA, which means energy, aimed to inspire cancer survivors to embrace recovery, resilience and a renewed sense of purpose.
